The beach is only partially organized with some areas with sunbeds and umbrellas, however, there is plenty of space without any tourist developments.
Famous, because of white sandy beach, the Kalamaki Beach in Zante is just some picture-perfect beach with soft brown sand and warm, crystal-clear waters. It has a shallow sea bed and thus perfectly safe for families with small children. It is a very quiet and relaxed beach, compared to Laganas-vastly more cosmopolitan-some miles south of Kalamaki.
Besides, the beach is an important nesting site for the endangered Caretta-Caretta turtles. Different beaches provide special protection to the species at their nesting area. Some of those restrictions involve closing the beach to visitors at night and prohibiting water sports activities.
